Arrivals: Sean Nicholas Savage – Naturally

Sean Nicolas Savage, the 30 year old singer songwriter from Quebec, is the Canadian indie scene (and the internet’s) best kept secret. Making music at a very prolific pace, he have put out 9 albums during the past 7 years. All released via Montreal’s Arbutus Records and some of them are available at his Bandcamp page. No fixated on specific genre and following the DIY ethos, he draws inspirations from 60’s power pop, adult contemporary, jazz, psychedelic rock, folk, soul, indie, electronica and a variety Latin-American music genres. But the mammoth amount of the output does not mean that we are dealing with low degree quality material, which repeats itself and bores the listeners even before over. Quite the contrary, using his voice and sonic kit, Savage is capable of creating a vast palette of moods, from moonlit ballads to Balearic beach etiudes with gorgeous melodies and  heartfelt lyrics.

This year, May 13, Savage is set to drop the album number 10, entitled Bermuda Waterfall. An open-ended, nocturnal and Krautrock infused Naturally serves the first single and leaves me in awe, wondering how does he do it. It seems to me that the lo-fi format has found yet another perfect place in the universe to occupy for itself. And it’s in Sean’s head.

Sunday Afternoon Sessions: Radiation City – Fly Me To The Moon

RadiationCity

This cute, naive pop version of the swing classic Fly me to the moon has stolen my heart instantly. Radiantion City hail from the hipster capital of the world, (no, not Chernobyl, Portland) and it’s only logical that this pop culture quoting, lo-fi beauty would come from there.  Sounds like Goldfrapp doing a bossanova record. And best part: it’s free download! Happy Sunday! And Happy St. Patrick day!
