Arrivals: Jam City – Crisis/Kindness feat Robyn- Who Do You Love? (Jam City Remix)

jam-press-shot-444x349 (1)

I won’t lie that Jam City is an artist I’ve known before. After a quick browse I’ve discovered that Jack Latham aka Jam City is a UK producer, who: a. already had released an album and few EP’s, b. rocked at Boiler Room, c. produced a tracks for Kelela’s debut LP, d. had been hailed by FACT Magazine as “the most promising British producer” back in 2009 and e. who says “no” to gender specific fashion ware. Although his soundcloud page looks a bit deserted, Jam City is gearing up for a release of a sophomore long player. Two possible tracks from that, yet to be named, album are streaming on Soundcloud. Both sound like a continuation of Jai Paul’s bass/soul hybrid, yet Jam City still manages to put his own signature to this sound. Fans of Gent Mason and Ben Khan should also be pleased.

Crisis is a stunning track. Thundering drums and synth slashes make it sound dangerous and emanate with suffocating heat. The song’s vague melody delivered by distant male vocals is hardly a refreshing breeze here. It feels more like an ironic wink. And the more spacious, lighter, Unhappy sounds no less metallic and distorted.

Jam City also reworked Who Do You Love, a collaboration between Kindness and Robyn, in the similar vein, with no less mesmerizing results.

Both tracks, as well the remix, made me very itchy to hear Lathman’s second album. I’ll be waiting impatiently.
