Following the sensational début EP last year, London based producer, Gent Mason have just dropped two fresh tracks, one for his birthday yesterday and another today. Mason’s Eden EP was one of my favourite releases of 2013 and will forever be reminiscent of last summer to me. It had topped last year’s Best EPs list at NSA and the title track landed in the top 10 of the tracks of 2013. On glitchy Better, Mason brings his sensual vocals forward instead of burying it the fuzzy beats, buzzing bass and samples as he did on his debut release. There’s still a lot of lovely static sounds echoing in the air here, recreating the atmosphere of the endless summer in the city. My Peak is a similar, bass heavy track refreshed by a nice acoustic guitar and Gent’s soft vocals.

I’m eagerly waiting for the official release of these tracks and more material from Gent. And Happy Belated Birthday, dude!

Versions: Darkside – Planet Caravan

artworks-000062820155-nwot6e-originalNicolas Jaar’s Darkside project is one of the acts I’m very excited to see live at Primavera Festival in Barcelona this May.

Jaar and his bandmate, Dave Harrington have recently covered Black Sabbath’s creepy number, Planet Caravan for BBC 1 at Maida Vale. It’s a very surprising choice but a chilling version.

St. Vincent’s indie dancefloor stomper, Digital witness, also got Darksided.

Here’s also Poolside’s version of Black Sabbath’s eerie ballad.
